Skin lesions basically refer to any lumps and bumps on/within your skin, such as moles, cysts, warts or skin tags. If the skin lesion is in a prominent place then you may wish to have it removed for cosmetic reasons and there are a number of different techniques to remove them.
Mr Thornton will assess the skin lesion to determine whether it is benign or whether it should be tested further by means of biopsy and histological assessment. Some lesions can be removed by formal excision with a narrow margin of normal skin, shaved down if they are raised, removed with heat or cold energy or, in the case of skin tags, removed with surgical scissors. These procedures will almost always be performed under local anaesthetic.
